Extension and refurbishment, Fitzrovia
A Grade II listed Georgian town house located at the edge of Fitzroy Square in London. The brief called for the restoration of historic fabric, modernisation of finishes and services as well as the careful insertion of a courtyard extension into a constrained central London plot. The extension provides additional bedrooms, reception rooms and bathrooms. At second floor a study is inserted. On the roof of the extension a new terrace is created overlooking the courtyard below.
The project required extensive discussion with the local authority, The Georgian Society and others in order to reach agreement on the treatment of original structures and features, and their successful integration into the new architecture.
Where possible, historic fabric was retained, restored and preserved, while new elements were detailed to complement and set off the original character of the building.
