House Extension, Histon<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

We were approached on this project as experienced heritage architects with a sustainability specialism to assist with a low-carbon extension within a conservation area. Conservation areas are planning policies which impose tight planning constraints on development based on the area’s specific heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ground floor of the house like many of its type suffered from a lack of daylight and cell-like layout. The solution created an open-plan kitchen dining area, benefitting from a fully glazed single storey extension linking the interior with the garden. A WC and utility room meanwhile were created to the side of the house where daylight is less plentiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our role as heritage architects came into play in particular on the design of the first floor extension, which the planning officer required to match the existing Victorian building in style and materials. A new bedroom and shower room were created, matching the existing house’s brickwork, roofing and windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nestled amongst the poplar trees and fields of the Cambridgeshire fens<\/a>, this two-storey extension and refurbishment feels bathed in light and imbued with the warmth of its bespoke oak structure, infilled with creamy Cambridgeshire brick and minimally-framed glazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
